MATERIALS: Vintage Tent Fabric

MATERIALS explores the origins of the materials that shape PUEBCO products, and the histories they continue to carry.

Surplus military canvas, India.

Military canvas was never intended to become a bag, basket or cushion. It was developed for a single purpose - to provide reliable shelter in demanding environments.

Across India, surplus military canvas has accumulated over decades, finding its way into warehouses where it awaits its next purpose. Stacked high in open yards and storage facilities, these vast stockpiles reveal a material shaped by time. Faded by the sun, marked by repairs and worn through years of use, every panel carries its own history.

Layers of faded canvas, shaped by years of use.

Rather than concealing these traces, PUEBCO allows them to remain. Variations in colour, stitching, patches and signs of wear are preserved, ensuring each piece retains the unique character of the material from which it was made.

Only the sections suitable for reuse continue their journey, transformed into objects for everyday life. In doing so, the story of the canvas is not erased, but carried forward. Every crease, repair and faded mark becomes part of the finished object — a quiet reminder that the value of a material can continue long after its original purpose has ended.
