Recycled Parachute

The material we sourced was once part of military parachutes that had reached the end of their service. Lightweight yet remarkably durable, it came in two varieties: ripstop, woven with a reinforcing grid to prevent tearing, and plain-weave non-ripstop. We paired these fabrics with handles made from deadstock and reclaimed industrial belts to create a collection of everyday products.

We found the material in a town in India known for its trade in military surplus. Hidden away was a small specialist shop where used fabrics were stacked almost to the ceiling. Calling it a shop hardly seems fitting—the space was so packed with fabric there was barely room to stand. Guided by the owner, we climbed over towering piles, pushing through layers of material in search of the right one. After hours of exploring what felt more like a cave than a store, we finally found it.

Perhaps that's why this material holds a special place for us. Some attachments are simply beyond words.
